Description

The Shropshire Union Canal main line lock gate, located on the north side of Nantwich Junction Bridge, dates from around 1826. This single lock gate and its beam are made of wood. When closed, the gate fits into a recess in the stone edging of the tow path at Bridge No. 92. The gate serves a drainage purpose for the canal, separating the Nantwich Aqueduct from the Nantwich Basin End and the northern section of the canal.
