Description
The barn attached to the chapel at Hough Hole House is a 17th-century structure with an 18th-century outshut. It is built from coursed squared buff sandstone rubble and features a Kerridge stone-slate roof. The barn has a long downhill plan, with a shippon at the lower end that includes a central feeding passage. The openings in the barn have either wooden or stone lintels. There are opposed small doorways and some ventilation slots. At the left end, there is a coach house with a large hammer-dressed sandstone surround at the entrance. This barn is located beneath the chapel at Hough Hole House, which is listed separately and is in separate ownership. Inside, the barn has three roof trusses made of tiebeam and collar, with overlapping through purlins and a ridge.
