Description
Cross Farmhouse is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It has origins dating back to the 16th century, with additions made in the late 17th century, a core that was rewalled in the late 18th century, and alterations in the mid-19th century. The building features a mix of construction materials, including orange brick in English wall bond with stone dressings, and washed brick. The roof is partly covered with Kerridge stone-slate and partly with Welsh slate, supported by three brick chimneys.
The farmhouse has a T-shaped plan and was originally designed with a cross-passage. It is two stories high with a five-bay east front. The right two bays project under a gable and are distinguished by an ashlar plinth and quoins. Below these bays, there is a three-light window and a blocked wooden casement, with a similar three-light window above, all set under flat wedged brick heads. There is also a setting for a date plaque in the gable. The remaining bays feature two or three-light casements and a door located behind a gabled trellised porch.
On the north front, there is a gabled porch that contains a four-board door, with a lean-to structure to the left. Inside, parts of a full cruck truss with a tiebeam and spurs are visible on the upper floor, along with some heavy chamfered ceiling beams.
