Description

Hunter's Pool Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the 17th century, featuring a major addition from 1722 and a rebuilding of the timber-framed section in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of Flemish bond purple-red brick and later English garden wall bond orange brick set on a rubble sandstone plinth. It has a Kerridge stone-slate roof, a stone ridge, and three lateral brick stacks. The farmhouse has an L-shaped plan and consists of two and three stories with a five-bay east front. The left three bays are two stories high, following the lines of the earlier timber-framed house, and feature cambered brick heads above 2-light casements with applied lead glazing, along with a four-board door that has iron strap hinges. The right two bays rise to three stories under a gable and include brick bands at the first and second floors. This section has a similar door on the left and wooden mullioned and transomed windows on each story with leaded iron casements, one of which has a scrolled catch. Heavy roof timbers project at the gable. A datestone on the building reads HSC 1722. At the rear, there is a three-light stone mullion in the plinth that lights the cellar, and some timber framing is also visible. The farmhouse serves as an estate farm for Mottram Hall.
