Description

Farmers Green is a house, originally a 1581 farmhouse, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is constructed of washed brick on a sandstone plinth, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It features a brick ridge chimney and a substantial external stone gable chimney. The chimney bears the inscription "EDWARDE GREENE ESQR DENARYE YEOMAN OF QUEEN ELIZABETHES CHAMBER BUYLDED THIS HOWS OF HIS OWN PROPER COST ANNO DOMI MDLXXXI ET ANNO DNI 1582 WINN," indicating it was built by Edward Greene. A single light has been cut through the stone gable, illuminating the fire area and featuring moulded panels in the soffits. The front of the house was remodelled in the late 19th and 20th centuries, incorporating three-light casement windows with glazing bars and a timber-framed gable with projecting bay windows.

Inside, the house contains timber-framed partition walls and chamfered ceiling beams with flat stops. The parlour retains a large stone fireplace with a heavily chamfered stone lintel. The rest of the interior has undergone significant alterations.
