Description
The pair of haybarns at Greendale Farm date from the late 18th century but incorporate earlier timbers, with some later alterations. They are constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond, with one barn featuring a Kerridge stone-slate roof and the other a Welsh slate roof. The two rectangular, three-bay barns stand side by side, connected by a continuous timber and corrugated iron hood. The west ends of the barns have large, two-centred brick arches, while the sides are supported by T-shaped brick piers. The east end walls were originally solid and included diamond pattern ventilation holes. The south front is now solid and buttressed. Notably, one complete timber truss from a 17th-century building has been reused in the structure.
Inside, the floor features a massive flagstone approximately 2.5 meters square, along with other stones that may be linked to the farm's history as a tanyard. These barns are recognized as good examples of their type and are listed for their group value.
