Description

Mottram Cross is a village cross with a medieval base, a shaft, and a head that was dated to 1832. It is made of buff sandstone ashlar. The structure features two graduated square steps that support a large square block. On top of this block is a tapering octagonal shaft with a square foot, a head, and a central band. This shaft supports a larger square head that has a cross on the front, the arms of the Wright family on the left side, and the date of restoration on the rear. The cross has been relocated a short distance from its original site, which is indicated by a plaque in the pavement.
