Description

Old Hall Farmhouse is a manor house dated 1587, which has been altered in the 19th century and is now used as a farmhouse. It is constructed from sandstone blocks and some old bricks, with the rear and right side rendered. The stone slate roof features one chimney on the ridge, another at the left end, and a large external chimney at the right end. The building has an H-plan layout, consisting of a 2-storey hall part flanked by 2-storey crosswings of unequal length.

On the left side, there is a 2-storey lean-to porch that includes a moulded Tudor-arched doorway. The lintel above the door is carved and lettered with the initials R T ( ) H (carved) I ( ) S H 1587, featuring three battleaxes in the center panel and horned animal heads between the letters on the flanking panels. The porch also has a splayed peephole in the side wall, a studded inner door, and a 2-light window on the first floor that lacks a mullion.

To the right of the porch, the hall part's wall is made of dressed stone blocks and features recessed windows on both floors, each with six large lights, chamfered mullions, a square king mullion, and a hoodmould, which is likely a 19th-century addition. The upper window is flanked by small round-headed windows. The wings have recessed stone mullioned windows, with the left wing having a six-light window on the first floor with a hoodmould and two lights in the apex. The right wing has a transomed window of 14 lights with hollowed mullions at ground floor, and above it, a 5-light window, with the wall above made of old bricks. The re-entrant area has a modern door, a blocked old opening at mid-level, and a blocked 4-light window above. Most of the windows have been altered in the 19th century, and the rear of the right wing has recently been rebuilt.

Inside, the interior has mostly been altered, but the right wing retains two chamfered beams supported by stone corbels and a rectangular fireplace with a very large lintel. The left wing features two cross-corner fireplaces, both of which have been modernized.
