Description

This is a terrace of 11 houses, now used as offices, built around 1840. The structure is made of garden wall bond brick with painted ashlar dressings and features Welsh slate roofs with brick chimneys. Each house has two storeys and a basement, with three windows. There are steps leading up to double six-panelled doors that open back to reveal doorcases with pilasters and entablatures. Some of these doorcases have Greek key designs, while others feature palmette and anthemion friezes, all topped with prominent cornices. The windows have wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills, with most sashes being renewed and some retaining glazing bars. The hipped roof includes transverse-ridge brick chimneys. The panel on the building has incised sans serif capitals reading "FOYLE STREET," and there are well-proportioned incised Roman capitals stating "ATHENAEUM STREET" on the right return, both on painted ashlar street name plaques on No. 25 at the north end. The steps and dwarf walls have restored railings.
