Description

The Taylor Tomb, located 210 metres west of the South-East Lodge at Bishopwearmouth Cemetery in Sunderland, is a Grade II listed structure dating from around 1911. It serves as a memorial for Margaret Taylor, who lived from 1849 to 1911, the wife of Henneson Taylor.

This tomb features a cross headstone and a kerbstone made of granite. The cross shaft stands approximately 4 metres high and is designed in a medieval style. It has a tapered pedestal and a tapered shaft that supports a coped cross, with all components richly decorated in interlace and inhabited vine patterns. The cross includes a central boss and has arms that are linked by a secondary ring. The enclosing kerbstone has low rounded coping, with corner and intermediate dwarf piers topped with domed coping that sweeps to the corners.
