Description
The Parish Hall, located west of the Church of St Andrew, was built in 1928. It is constructed from rubble magnesian limestone with ashlar and concrete dressings, topped with a Lakeland slate roof. The building is one high storey with six windows, and features cross wings that rise to two storeys, with one window at the front. There is a low storey link to the church on the right side, which has two windows.
The linking corridor includes a projecting central porch with a flat-pointed plain arch set in a crow-stepped gable. The flanking fixed lights are supported by irregular block jambs beneath the low eaves of the deep roof. A panel above the door reads "PRIESTMAN BUILDING 1928." The hall features large windows with straight pointed arches, consisting of three lights with mullions and transoms, as well as five-light windows on the first floor under the gables of the wings. The lower windows of the wings are five-light mullion and transom windows with wedge stone lintels. Similar lintels are found on the two-light transomed windows in the returns of the wings. The mullions, transoms, and possibly the arches of the windows are made of reinforced concrete. The roof is steeply pitched, and some rear windows were blocked at the time of the survey. The building is included for its group value with the church.
