Description

Robertson Memorial Hall is a single-storey, T-plan church hall built in 1900, with later additions and alterations. It is situated on a sloping site next to the former St Andrews Free Church to the northeast. The hall features a piended porch in the re-entrant angle to the northeast and a later lean-to addition in the re-entrant angle to the northwest. The building is primarily constructed of coursed and stugged cream sandstone with ashlar dressings, while the west side is made of rubble, and the northwest addition is brick-built. It has a base course and quoins.

The east elevation has a projecting gable end on the left, which includes a pointed-arched inscribed plaque at the ground level, framed by an architrave and hoodmould. Above this is a large rose window with stylised tracery, and a louvred window is centred in the gablehead. The piended porch to the right has a boarded timber door with decorative iron hinges. To the right of the porch is a recessed 2-bay range featuring bipartite, shoulder-arched windows in both bays, complete with chamfered cills and mullions. The former church is attached to the outer right.

On the south side elevation, there is a gabled bay slightly advanced at the centre, which has a pointed-arched, traceried window that breaks the eaves, along with a small trefoil opening centred in the gablehead. The flanking bays are blind, and the former church is recessed to the outer right.

The west rear elevation features a projecting gable end on the right with two lancet windows flanking the centre, and a louvred window is centred in the gablehead. There is a single window in the lean-to addition to the left, and a recessed 2-bay range to the left with single windows in both bays. The former church is recessed to the outer left.

The hall predominantly has diamond-pane leaded glazing, with some stained glass and 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows at the rear. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring stone-coped skews and bracketed, gabletted skewputts.

The interior was not seen in 1999. The site is partially enclosed by spearheaded iron railings, which include iron gatepiers and a spearheaded pedestrian gate.
