Description
The bandstand at the north end of Roker Park, built around 1880, is a cast-iron structure featuring railings, a wooden base, and a metal-covered roof topped with an iron finial. It has an octagonal shape with a corniced base that displays panelled patterns on the sides. Slender columns with tall bases and crocket capitals support ornamental arch braces and patterned beams. Between the columns are ornamental railings. The tented roof has flattened eaves and a central cupola raised on a pierced iron band, complete with iron cresting. The roof covering has scalloped edges on its tiers, and a tall spiked finial completes the design.
