Description

The gates and gate piers at the north-east corner of the junction with Sunderland Road date from the 18th century, with one modern copy. The gates are made of wrought iron. The gate piers are three 18th-century structures, constructed from stone with rusticated and vermiculated surfaces, featuring projecting cornices and obelisk finials. These elements were re-erected on this site when Cleadon Tower was altered around 1890.
