Description

Cleadon Tower is a house from the 18th century that incorporates parts of an earlier structure and underwent reconstruction of the tower in 1890. The building is rendered and features a Welsh slate roof for the house and a flat roof for the tower. It has an L-shaped plan with a cross gable facing the street and the tower situated in the angle.

The south elevation has two storeys with three windows. There is a small two-light window above the central door, a square oriel window with a cornice on the upper right, and the remaining windows are three-light mullioned. All openings have label moulds. The roof includes two small gabled dormers with barge-boards, gable coping, two brick chimneys at the ends, and one on the cross gable, along with crenellation on the tower.

Inside, there is a 19th-century handrail on the staircase with decorated tread ends and one plain turned baluster on each step. The ground floor features wide three-centred arched stone lintels over two fireplaces, which are chamfered with tongue stops and have two-stepped flat and tongue stops. There is another fireplace that is covered on the ground floor. On the first floor, a chimney piece displays a false four-centred arch between tapered pilasters, fluted with a heavily moulded plinth and cornice, and the Chamber arms above it. Additionally, there are some two-panelled doors with bolection-moulded architraves and panels above.
