Description

This milestone, dating from the late 18th century, is located on the Newcastle to Tynemouth Turnpike Road. It is a rectangular stone that tapers towards the ground and stands approximately 0.5 meters high. The milestone is set behind a later, low stone wall. It features a round-headed top, and the front face is inscribed with a large figure ‘8’, indicating that it is eight miles from Newcastle.
