Description
The Smith's Dock Company War Memorial, located in West Park, North Shields, was built in 1922 for Smith's Dock Company Ltd. It features sandstone steps leading up to a Portland stone cenotaph. The cenotaph is tall, corniced, and tapered, adorned with carved wreaths and flanked by tall pilasters, which have upper sections that are curved with reeded necking. The names of those who died from the company during the Great War are carved on both sides of the memorial, with the dates 1914-1918 inscribed within the wreaths.
