Description

The Land of Green Ginger Shopping Mall and the former church hall, located on the south side of Front Street in Tynemouth, is a Grade II listed building. Originally a Congregational church built in 1868 by Thomas Oliver, the hall was added in 1886, as noted in the door lintel. The structure is made of coursed rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof with stone gable coping. It showcases a modified late 13th-century style, with the church oriented north-south and the tower positioned to the right when facing Front Street.

The tower has a double door with ballflower ornamentation on a moulded arch supported by twin shafts. The upper sections of the tower include 2-light belfry openings set beneath arcades, along with slit windows. The tower culminates in a broach spire with lucarnes. A prominent 4-light west window is also present. The church connects to a three-storey, three-bay gabled hall on the left, constructed from similar materials. The hall features stone mullioned and transomed windows, with the upper windows being pointed-arched. The right side of the church displays four gables, each with 2-light windows. Historically, the hall was built by members and friends of the Congregational church for public and educational purposes.
