Description

Two houses, numbers 1 and 2 Allendale Place, were built around 1840. Number 2 has been later divided into flats. The houses are constructed of English bond brick with an ashlar basement and stone dressings, and have a Welsh slate roof. They have a basement and three storeys, with three bays each, although number 2 has later oriels flanking the central entrance. The central door is a four-panelled design with an overlight, recessed in an architrave, and there are basement doors with steps to the side. The remaining windows are sash windows with glazing bars, sitting on wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills. Horizontal bands mark the ground and first floors, and an eaves gutter band and cornice run along the top. Two corniced brick chimneys, made of ashlar, flank the low-pitched hipped roof.
