Description
No. 1 is a single house located on Old Vicarage Walk in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne. It was built between 1976 and 1978 by Ralph Erskine's Arkitektkontor, with Vernon Gracie as the site architect and structural engineering by White, Young and Partners. The house features pale modular metric brick on a timber frame, complemented by weatherboarding. It has blue metal monopitch roofs with plywood box beam purlins and stands two storeys tall.
The side elevation facing Old Vicarage Walk includes a large green bird box, while the front elevation showcases blue weatherboarding and a red metal door hood. The rear has dark blue weatherboarding below a brown band at the first floor, which forms a strip to the windows and red eaves. Surrounding the property are red fences atop low walls. No. 1 Vicarage Walk aligns with No. 3 Old Vicarage Walk and the adjoining terrace at Nos. 12-18 Benson Place, making it a prominent single dwelling set within well-planted grounds between Jubilee Terrace and Benson Place.
