Description

This is a terrace of houses located on St Thomas’ Crescent, Newcastle upon Tyne. Dating to circa 1862, with No. 27 constructed around 1842, the terrace is built with English garden wall bond brick, featuring an ashlar plinth and brick dressings. The basement is present at No. 27. The terrace consists of 20-27 consecutive houses, and 27B. Each house has 3 bays and two storeys, except No. 27, which has a basement. The houses have 4-panelled doors with overlights in architraves at the right-hand side of Nos. 20-26. No. 27 has steps leading to a renewed 6-panel door, and a similar door serves the basement of No. 27B. The first seven houses have late 19th-century sash windows with wedge stone lintels, projecting ground floor sills, and first floor sill bands. No. 27 displays recessed panels beneath the sills of sash windows with glazing bars, and a first floor band. An eaves band and gutter cornice adorn the terrace. Brick chimneys are present, some with ashlar cornicing. The terrace is bordered by cast iron area railings with spear-headed tops, and scroll balusters on the hand-rails.
