Description
This is a house dating to approximately 1842, situated on St. Thomas’ Street in Newcastle upon Tyne. The structure is built with English bond brickwork, featuring an ashlar basement and ashlar dressings. The roof is covered with Welsh slate.
The house has a basement and two storeys, with three bays visible from the front. A set of steps leads to a central four-panelled door, which is topped with a Greek key detail and a two-pane overlight. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, featuring moulded sills and aprons. There are ashlar pilasters supporting cornices at each end of the front elevation, and a string course marks the first floor. An eaves band and a gutter cornice run along the roofline. A chimney with an ashlar cornice is located at the right-hand end and the roof is hipped on the right side. Cast iron area railings, with spear-shaped details, are also present.
The right-hand return features a pilastered projecting bay, which corresponds to the first bay of St. Thomas' Terrace.
