Description

The Statue of Queen Victoria, located on the front lawn of the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne, is a Grade II* listed monument dated 1906 and signed by the artist George Frampton, R.A. The statue is made of white marble and stands on a high square pedestal, which features four low square buttresses at its corners. The pedestal has side panels with curved heads that bear inscriptions: "VICTORIA OF ENGLAND/1837-1901/"; "UNVEILED BY KING EDWARD VII/JULY 11, 1906/"; and "THE GIFT OF SIR RILEY LORD/1906." The surrounding area includes a paved square terrace with indented corners, steps on the sides opposite the hospital entrance, and flanking dwarf walls with wide sloped coping. The statue depicts a young Queen Victoria in robes, holding an orb, sceptre, and crown.
