Description
Nos. 86 to 90 Grainger Street are shops and houses, now functioning as shops, built around 1837, likely designed by John Wardle for Richard Grainger. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar and has four storeys with five bays. The ground floor has been altered, while the upper floors feature a giant Ionic Order of attached fluted pilasters. The windows are sash style in plain reveals, with some including glazing bars. The second floor has an entablature with a prominent cornice. The top floor displays panelled pilasters flanking sash windows with glazing bars, except for the centre bay, which is blind on all floors. There is a top cornice and blocking course with blocks positioned above the pilasters.
