Description
A row of eight houses, now six dwellings and an office, at 16-24 Leazes Crescent, was built between 1829 and 1830 by Thomas Oliver for Richard Grainger. The houses are stucco-faced, with rough render to numbers 20 and 21, and have Welsh slate roofs. Originally, each house had a three-bay design. The ground floor doorways have segmental-headed recesses, containing six-panelled doors; most have been replaced, except for those at numbers 18, 20 and 21, and the door at number 16, which is inserted. The doors have overlights and plain surrounds. Many of the windows have been renewed, but number 18 retains its original sash windows with glazing bars; all have projecting sills. A continuous band runs along the first floor, and there is a decorative entablature to the three houses on the right and two on the left. The building is finished with a gutter cornice and a blocking course engraved with ‘LEAZES CRESCENT’ on the left end panel. Number 17 is now subdivided.
