Description
The Walker War Memorial is a tall stone structure located on the west side of Scrogg Road, aligned with Melton Avenue and other roads in the housing estate, as well as the western entrance to Walker Park. The memorial features a figure of Victory atop a tapering pylon, which is set on a broad plinth that rests on a low three-stepped base. The upper part of the pylon is decorated with equal-armed crosses carved in low relief.
On the front face of the pylon, there is an inscription that reads: "ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE GALLANT MEN OF WALKER WHO SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR. 1914-1918. 1939-1945. THEY DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE."
