Description
A terrace of sixteen houses, dating from approximately 1842, is located on the south side of St. Thomas' Crescent in Newcastle upon Tyne. The buildings are constructed of English garden wall bond brick, with an ashlar basement and ashlar dressings, and have Welsh slate roofs. Each house has a basement and two storeys, with three bays. Steps lead up to four-panelled doors, each with a three-pane overlight, set in deep reveals and architraves. The ground floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set with wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills. Matching first-floor windows have a sill band. Brick chimneys, some with ashlar cornices, are present. There is a gutter cornice running along the top of the buildings. The terrace is distinguished by cast iron area railings, gates, and handrails, featuring spear-headed designs.
