Description
Nos. 50 and 52 Dean Street is a shop and house built around 1784 and remodelled in 1902 by Benjamin Simpson. The building features a sandstone ashlar ground floor, with painted brick above that includes painted ashlar dressings and quoins. It has a Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings. The design showcases an Art Nouveau shop front and consists of three storeys and an attic, arranged in two bays. There is a door on the left and a wide window on the right, framed by three stout Ionic half-columns with exaggerated entasis. The window has wood mullions and transoms and is segmental-headed. Above, there are plain sash windows in architraves, with bracketed windows on the second floor. The building has an eaves band and a gutter cornice. The mansard roof features a wide pedimented dormer and ashlar-corniced brick chimneys.
