Description
No. 12 Mosley Street is a bank building constructed in 1891 by architect A. Waterhouse for the Prudential Assurance Company. It features a basement and four storeys, arranged in a five by five bay configuration. The basement is made of red granite and has wrought iron grilles, while the upper floors are constructed of red brick and red sandstone, topped with a Lakeland slate roof. The building is designed in a free early-Renaissance style.
A notable feature is the canted corner bay, which includes steps leading up to a glass door from around 1980, set in a round arch. This arch is flanked by brackets that end in Ionic capitals, supporting an entablature adorned with scrolls and a small pediment. The ground floor showcases large mullioned and transomed windows, while the upper floors have mullioned windows, with those on the second floor placed under segmental pediments. The steeply pitched roof is accented by small segmental pediments on the gables.
