Description
Nos. 1 and 3 Grey Street are shops and houses, now functioning as a restaurant and shops. They were built around 1835, likely by John Wardle for Richard Grainger. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar with a plinth and features a Welsh slate roof, showcasing a classical style. It stands four storeys high, with three bays and a curved corner bay facing Mosley Street.
A corner entrance added around 1890 is designed in a Baroque style, framed by flat Tuscan pilasters and slender late 19th-century pilasters. The fascia and band are also present. Above, a giant Corinthian Order features sash windows set in architraves, with pediments on the first floor and bracketed sills above. The third-floor windows are in plain reveals between the pilasters and top band. All windows are sashes with glazing bars, and the corner windows are curved.
