Description
Nos. 28 and 30 Mosley Street are offices and shops built in 1894 by Armstrong and Knowles for Alderman Stout, with the left shop altered in 1902 by Watson and Curry. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar and has four storeys and three bays. Rusticated pilasters frame the central office door, while similar pilasters flank a wide arch in the left bay, which features many keys above a window with a moulded sill. The right bay has been altered. The ground floor has an entablature, and above it, a giant Ionic Order defines shallow canted bays and a narrower central recessed bay that contains a single window on each floor. All windows are sashes with upper glazing bars, and the keyed central cornices rise into the main entablature on the second floor. The top floor features a mannered, squat Ionic Order with block rustication to paired columns that flank mullioned-and-transomed keyed elliptical-headed windows. The top entablature has a pulvinated frieze with brackets above each window and a pair of columns. The building is topped with tall corniced end chimneys.
