Description
The Coal Drops, built around 1840, are associated with the Brandling Junction Railway. The structure is made of coursed squared stone with vermiculate rusticated outer faces. It features eleven tall bays, and the walls support a railway track above. Stout timber butt purlins at four levels hold sloped timber chutes that were used for dropping coal into wagons below. This building is listed as a rare and interesting industrial survival with some architectural pretension.
