Description
The Former Midland Railway Grain Warehouse Number 2, built around 1880-1890, is a three-storey structure with a basement made of red brick. It features the quality detailing and restrained architectural style typical of the Midland Railway. The building is 11 bays long and has round-headed windows on the ground floor, which are adorned with finely gauged brick arches and fixed iron glazing bars. The upper floors have square windows with ashlar lintels and centre pivot small pane iron lights. A moulded brick eaves cornice runs along the gable end of the slate roof, which is punctuated by a range of skylights. There are corniced chimneys at the gable ends and one off centre. The warehouse includes two weatherboarded, gabled two-storey grain hoists that face the railway, along with a similar hoist on the north side that faces the yard. It is situated near the brewery complex along Station Street.
