Description
The railway bridge of the former York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway, built in 1849, is attributed to John Dobson. It is positioned at an angle over the road and features ashlar side piers that support a wide segmental arch. This arch is set back and adorned with pointed rusticated voussoirs. A deep cornice extends forward around the piers, leading to a blocking course and a tall parapet above. The segmental barrel vault of the bridge is constructed from skewed banded rusticated stone.
