Description
The mausoleum located to the east of the Church of St Mary is a late 17th century structure made of brick and stone. It is a small square building featuring a scrolled parapet, corner pinnacles, and a short obelisk. This mausoleum was originally constructed for Robert Trollop, who passed away in 1686 and was the architect of the Newcastle Guildhall, Capheaton, and other country houses. In the 19th century, the Green family adopted the mausoleum, during which much of the brickwork was renewed.
