Description
Nos 25 and 27 Quayside is a shop and office building, now used entirely as offices, built in 1869 by John Wardle for W.C. Brown. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a Welsh slate roof. The building has four storeys and attics, with four windows across its façade.
The office entrance on the right has a renewed double door and fanlight set within a quadrant-moulded arched surround, which includes a keystone and alternately rusticated voussoirs. The former shop area has renewed glazing and a blocked door with a window inserted. Chamfered pilasters support a cornice at the ground floor.
The upper floors feature sash windows, with a lintel band and chamfering above the windows, leading to a rusticated first floor adorned with eight carved tympana. The second floor showcases a prominent cornice, recessed abacus, and coved recessed strips flanking the windows and between the bays, along with Italian Gothic carvings on eight panels above. The third floor has plain reveals for the sash windows, with end pilasters that include mask brackets.
At the top, the building is finished with mace-head finials on the cornice and a central dormer featuring a Diocletian window, all beneath a steeply-pitched hipped roof.
