Description
No. 25 King Street is a Grade II listed building in Newcastle upon Tyne, dating from around 1890. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a Welsh slate roof. The building stands four storeys tall with an attic and has eight bays, designed in the Jacobethan style.
The façade includes leaded casements set within stone mullioned-and-transomed cross windows. At each end of the building, there are paired pilasters; the ground floor features Tuscan order pilasters with paterae, while the first floor has Ionic order pilasters, and the third floor showcases Corinthian pilasters. Each level is adorned with full-width entablatures that include pulvinated friezes, with egg-and-dart moulding on the ground-floor cornice, dentils on the first floor, and modillions on the second.
The two dormers on the roof have similar windows set in keyed arched recesses, which are flanked by consoles and topped with segmental pediments. The parapet is embellished with pilasters, and there are two segmental-headed dormers. The right return facing the Quayside features a similar dormer with consoles, creating a shaped gable effect.
