Description

Old Sunniside Farmhouse is a late 17th and mid-18th century farmhouse. It is constructed of rubble and brick, with slate roofs and three white brick gable stacks. The building has a double range plan.

The south-east front is two stories high and has four bays, built of red brick with a brick band. An off-centre doorway features a 20th-century half-glazed double door and overlight. To the right of the doorway is a single-pane sash window, and two similar sashes to the left. Above the doorway is a blank opening, with a single-pane sash window to its right and two similar sashes to the left. All window openings have segment brick heads. A rubble and brick lean-to, with a stone slate roof, extends to the north-east.

The rear elevation is primarily rubble stone with three bays. It includes a plank door to the left and two plain sash windows to the right on the ground floor, and three plain sash windows above. Interior windows on the south-east elevation retain 18th-century shutters, while those on the rear elevation have 17th-century shutters. The staircase is largely 20th-century, but incorporates part of a former splat baluster staircase, which is now enclosed. Some 17th and 18th-century panel doors remain.
