Description

Heworth Constitutional Club, formerly known as Nether Heworth Hall, is a house that has been converted into a club. The building features an early 18th-century north front and a late 18th-century south front. The north elevation is made of coursed squared sandstone and includes a plinth and rusticated quoins, while the south elevation is constructed of ashlar and also has a plinth. The building is two storeys high with five windows.

On the north elevation, there is a central six-panelled door set within a fluted Ionic doorcase that includes a pulvinated frieze and a dentilled segmental pediment. The windows have architraves and projecting sills, with the first-floor sashes featuring broad glazing bars. Additional details include a first-floor band, an eaves cornice, and cavetto-moulded coping along the parapet.

The south elevation has a central half-glazed door located in a porch supported by four Tuscan columns with reeded collars, accessed by two steps. The sashes have plain reveals and glazing bars, along with bands at the first floor and at the sills. There is an eaves cornice and a blocking course, with a pediment over the central three bays that is open at two points.

To the east, there is a lower two-storey set-back wing that features two double sashes with projecting stone sills on the ground floor, and one sash along with a blocked double opening on the first floor. The west elevation has a low square central porch with rusticated quoins and a projecting stone rainwater gutter at the top left, leading down to a boarded door beneath a flat stone lintel.
