Description
Ardallan is a house built in 1847 for Thomas Gallon, a paper manufacturer. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and has a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features three sash windows, with the ground floor windows being tripartite and stone mullioned. The centre bay is recessed and quoined, containing a four-panelled door beneath an oblong fanlight, along with a frieze and cornice. The hipped roof has two ridge chimneys with square stone stacks that share a common plinth and cornice. At the back, there is a two-storey, one-bay wing made of coursed squared sandstone, which has blocked-in windows and a brick chimney at the front. Notably, Ardallan is the first house built on Holly Hill field.
