Description
No. 8 High Street is a building dating from around 1800, constructed on an older foundation. The structure features local brick above and older red brick below, with stone cill hands on both floors. It has a Westmorland blue slate roof with diminishing courses at the front and pantiles at the rear, along with end chimneys. The building is two storeys high and has five windows. The first floor showcases early 19th-century style sashes with stucco lintels and delicate glazing bars. The ground floor has early 20th-century sashes that include cast iron ornamental guards. Access to the building is via seven renewed stone steps leading to a six-panel door set within a pedimented classical doorcase, which is adorned with fluted pilasters. Additionally, there is a cast iron handrail and area railings featuring fleur-de-lys standards at the top and above the half-rail.
