Description
The Wellington Obelisk, located to the southeast of Wynyard Hall, is a Grade II* listed structure commemorating the visit of the Duke in 1827. It stands 127 feet high on a square base. The original inscription read "Wellington Friend of Londonderry," but this was altered in 1828 to simply "Wellington" after Londonderry was not given a place in the Cabinet.
