Description
The gatepiers at the entrance to the drive of Kirkleatham Hall School date from the mid to late 18th century and were restored in the late 19th century and again in 1978. They are made of sandstone ashlar. Each gatepier features a chamfered-rusticated shaft, a moulded plinth, and a renewed moulded cornice topped with a ball finial on an ogee stem and square base. There is an inverted volute at the head of the inner face of each shaft. These gatepiers mark the entrance to the former Kirkleatham Hall, which was demolished in 1955, and the gate itself was destroyed around 1970. The boundary wall adjoining the gatepiers to the north and south is not of special interest but is included for group value.
