Description
The Corney chest tomb, located one metre east of the Church of St. Cuthbert, is a Grade II listed structure. This chest tomb commemorates seven members of the Corney family who died between 1728 and 1777, including Robert Corney (1707-1774), who was the architect and builder of St. Cuthbert's Church. It is made of vertically-tooled, chamfered-rusticated sandstone and features a moulded plinth. The flat top has a torus-moulded edge and displays a worn epitaph. The tomb is included in the listing for its historic interest.
