Description
The Cottages, located in Kirkleatham, is a stable built in the early to mid-18th century that was converted into a cottage around 1800. It features mid to late 18th century and mid to late 19th century rear extensions. The right-hand section is now part of No. 8. The building is constructed of brick and has a renewed clay pantile roof, although the right-hand part has late 20th century concrete tiles. The left end has brick gable copings and kneelers.
The structure is two storeys high with two windows on the left side. There is a central renewed boarded door and mid-20th century casement windows in the original openings. The one-storey, one-bay right section is the same height and has a three-light horizontal sash window with glazing bars. A three-course stepped brick eaves cornice runs along the top, and there is an off-centre ridge stack. A mid-20th century casement window is located in the left return. Single-storey lean-to rear extensions create a catslide effect with the main roof. Inside, the cottage retains beamed ceilings. The building is included for its group value.
