Description
The Cottages, also known as The Old Vicarage, is a mid-18th century vicarage that has been converted into a private house. It is constructed of brick, which is now rendered and painted, sitting on a dressed sandstone plinth. The roof is made of Lakeland slate and is covered with bitumen, featuring clay gable copings at the right end. The building has two storeys and three windows. The central doorway has a late 20th-century door with an overlight that includes glazing bars. This doorway is framed by a mid to late 19th-century pilaster-and-entablature surround with panelled reveals. Most windows are late 20th-century casements, except for a sash window with glazing bars located on the ground floor to the right. There is an end stack on the left and an external stack with offsets on the right. The right side of the building has late 20th-century inserted windows and renewed garret lights. There are mid and late 19th-century one and two-storey rear extensions, which are not of particular interest. The building is included for its group value.
