Description
George Stephenson's Cottage is an 18th-century house constructed of random rubble that is partly rendered. It features a pantile roof above a stone slate roof. The front has a central plank door, with 12-pane Yorkshire sash windows on either side and a small 6-pane window above the door. At the rear, there is a continuous outshut that has 20th-century windows. The roof is steeply pitched and gabled, edged with stone slates, and has thin raised coping along with two rebuilt brick stacks at the ends. A plaque on the front wall commemorates the birth of George Stephenson on June 9th, 1781. This property is managed by the National Trust.
