Description

The Market Cross in Warkworth is a Grade II listed structure. The stepped base likely dates back to 1706, while the upper part was replaced around 1830 by the Duke of Northumberland and underwent restoration in the 20th century. The cross features a square, three-stepped base, with the bottom step partially covered by tarmac. Above the square plinth, the cross is octagonal, and the restored upper section includes a panelled set-back with sunk cinquefoil-headed panels that hold small cast-iron plates displaying Percy emblems, which alternate between crescents and fetterlocks. The top of the cross is adorned with a swept panelled dome and a cast-iron finial topped with a gilded cross.
