Description
The Hermitage Inn is an 18th-century inn located on Castle Street in Warkworth. It is constructed of brick, rendered, roughcast, and colour-washed, topped with a blue Welsh slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys with seven narrow bays. There is a band at the first floor level, and the central opening features panelled doors in a moulded frame, with a blocked window above. The other windows are 18-pane renewed sashes, and all openings have segmental heads, except for the carriage entrance on the far right. The gables are coped, and the ridge and end stacks have been rebuilt. The rear elevation includes an added outshut from the late 18th or early 19th century, which features a re-glazed round-headed stair window.
Inside, there is a cellar beneath the rear wing, which has a segmental brick vault. An altered outbuilding range is present but is not of special interest.
