Description
25 and 26 Castle Street is a pair of houses dating from the early 18th century. The door lintel of No. 25 is dated 1727 and features worn initials "wcs," which stand for William and Sarah Carr. The buildings are constructed of squared stone with cut dressings and have a Welsh slate roof with old brick stacks. They are two storeys high and have a total of four windows, with one window on No. 25 and three on No. 26.
The central entrance has a pair of 20th-century part-glazed doors; No. 25, on the left, has wave-moulded jambs, while No. 26, on the right, is framed by a late 18th-century tooled block surround. The ground-floor windows on either side are paired sashes set in 20th-century openings. The first-floor windows consist of plain sashes for No. 25 and 20th-century casements for No. 26, both in old moulded surrounds. The buildings feature end stacks.
These houses are included for their group value.
